HADDOW is a persona for improvised exploration of home made instruments and found sounds
Under the working name hAshtAgblAck.n.o.i.s.e, Jacques van Zyl performs as a noise musician and sound artist, touching upon the fields of installation sound art, musique concrète, harsh noise wall, and improvisation. His works and performance events unfold according to a scheme that he terms “generalised music”, where the artist is any person who creates or reproduces an intended gesture using sound, irrespective of either the nature of the sonic material that is being created or reproduced, or whether the instrument used is a living or non-living object, a traditional musical instrument, an electronic or mechanical sound generator, or simply a music player. His approach therefore skirts authorship and post-human relationality by creating a surplus of uncodifiable, unmediated bidirectional interfaces between the inner workings of human and electrical neural machines, which are then interpreted by the human mind through conflating the seemingly antithetical notions of silence and sound.
Andrei van Wyk aka Healer Oran is a Johannesburg-based composer, musician and sound artist who has worked in the mediums of dance, film, performance and sound installation. He is currently an MA student in History at Rhodes University focusing on soundscapes, sonic history and dispossession in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
Raw material is obtained from old instruments and open source sound engines. It is allowed to fill the room, while two untrained engineers begin the application of filters and delays. They work until a connection is made, sound is given life, and time slips away.

When making music, naming songs and doing the cover artwork, I try to build a story through it all. I never want to just put a release together without making sure that every element is there for a reason. I believe art is in everything around us and every genre of music has something to offer.
